1995 Pinnacle #234 Jay Buhner
Some fun facts while researching Buhner for this card:
1. The right field area of the Kingdome that Jay patrolled was purported to have a brownish tint from his years of tobacco spit.
2. A Seattle Post-Intelligencer article suggests that Buhner gave up the dip about 20 years ago. Hoping he was able to kick the habit permanently. There are too many stories of Bill Tuttles or Tony Gwynns that don't end well.
Decent card.
ReplyDeleteGlad he gave it up. My brother used it for years... I remember him struggling to quit. He eventually did.
ReplyDeletethere are plenty of nellie fox cards and photos showing him with a chaw. i was surprised that it was skin cancer that killed him in his 40s, and not something related to his chewing habit.
