CC: Short Rest

2020 Topps Now Turn Back the Clock #182

Yes, they snuck in one more of these very close to the end of the set.  Good for the collection, not as good for the wallet.
I wasn't at this game, but I was at the one two nights earlier.  We went into the final series of the year tied with the Mets for the lone Wild Card spot.  With Milwaukee facing the rival Cubs, and New York up against the respectable Marlins, we knew it was going to be tough.  Both teams happened to split the first two games of their respective series, so it all came down to the final game of the season.  It was a great feeling, knowing that we were going to win game 162 because Sabathia was on the mound.  It was all a matter of if our bats could show up, and if New York could hopefully manage to screw it up.  It would have been something to have to sweat out a playoff game for the Wild Card, but of course it wasn't needed.  CC threw a CG 4-hit shutout, and the Mets Metted.
One lasting memory of this game was the reaction in the neighborhood.  It was a lovely September day, nice enough to listen to the game outside if you wanted.  I watched on TV, and there was a few-second delay between the radio and television broadcasts.  There were a couple of times during big plays where I could hear someone on my block whooping it up about three seconds before seeing what happened on my TV.  It was truly a fun time to be a Brewers fan.
