2024 Card-vent Calendar: December 14

December 14, 2024:
2024 Hawk Tuah Girl with Cock 'n Balls Lincoln Cent Relic (40/69)
However you view this phenomenon, be it from the lens of bewilderment at instant celebrity, or trickle-down memification*, or the the inherent dangers of unstable currency, she did at least get something right.

As consenting adults, you and your partner of choice should aggressively pursue satisfaction, whatever form that may take.  Without bias against any gender, please feel free to spit on that thang**, and in turn get that thang spit on.  It's Saturday, after all.
*Seriously, I have third grade students saying "hawk tuah" all over the place.   It's very disturbing.  ("Skibidi" and "What the sigma?" are also huge right now.  I've worked very hard to ignore it, they're just dumb words that will go away in a few months, and calling attention to them would just prolong their stay.  After all, three years ago it was an onslaught of randomly singing "We Don't Talk About Bruno," and now nobody does that anymore.)  I'm hoping they're oblivious to its origins, and they're just repeating what they've heard repeated ad nauseam from short-form videos, which are the most popular form of entertainment for their age group at the moment.

**Thang having no specific biology, in this space at least.  Parts is parts, as they used to say.

Trade Me Anything XVII: #5

Things have been extraordinarily busy around here lately, which partially explains why I haven't posted a TMA trade in a while.  This one is from Brendan.  I have to preface this post with a mea culpa.  When Brendan claimed his cards, I mistakenly told him that a Mike Trout card featured in the very first trade was available.  Unfortunately, I had made an earlier mistake with trader Tom, missing that he had claimed this Trout card.  Without going into too much detail, it was basically a clerical error on my part.  Sorry, Brendan, but the Trout card has already been sent to Tom, who actually did claim it first.  I owe you one.

Giving:
#US244 Corbin Carroll, #T88CU-80 Vladimir Guerrero Jr., #T88CU-89 Justin Verlander, #AS-9 Yordan alvarez Action Stars Black (007/299), #AS-24 Luis Robert Action Stars

Getting:
Some Brewers
The two Big League cards are new to me.  Loving the Wanted poster for Yelich, and the Braun will go into what has become a dormant Braun Binder.

Some Panini Soccer Inserts
The Pickford card is very nice, as he is the keeper for my Premier League team of choice, Everton.  That 10-point deduction was quite the blow, but it may have turned out to be just what the club needed, as they have played much better since it was levied.

Some Panini Football Cards
There's a card of a guy my team just beat (Mahomes, and don't get me started on the refereeing.  There were about four incorrect calls in the final two minutes, two that benefitted each team.  It even out, and the Pack was the better team on the night.), a card of the guy who played at QB for most of my fantasy football season (sitting in the basement at 3-10 heading into the final week of the regular season.  Feel the excitement!), and a card of a hot Rams fan.

1983 Topps #210 Johnnie Cooks, #135 Butch Woolfolk
These are awesome, and they cut my want list down to four cards to complete the set.

Thanks for a great bunch of cards, Brendan, and another apology for the Trout mix-up.

2022 Card-vent Calendar: December 12

December 12, 2022:
1993 Dynamic The Creators Universe #059 Phaedra
There's not a lot to go on with regard to Phaedra here.  She's a creation of well-known comic artist Walt Simonson, possibly as part of his Star Slammers universe.  She's quintessentially 1990s in ways I don't need to describe.  It's hard to tell by looking, but she's exactly four feet tall ("although exquisitely proportioned," reads the copy).  Yeah, even the comic book trading cards were extra horny back then.

For more (unrelated) Phaedra contect, check out this link to Lee Hazlewood's "Some Velvet Morning."  The song contains several mentions of a mysterious woman of the same name, whose persona in the song is played by Nancy Sinatra.  Just a cool song.

2020 Card-vent Calendar: December 16

 December 16, 2020:
2005 Inkworks Alias #P1 Season 4 Promo Card

The list will be embarrassingly long once all is said and done, but boy, did I lean in hard to watching TV this year.  My movie watching output was equal to that of a standard year, but once Coronavirus hit, I was Captain Television.  Most of what I watched was whatever was available on Amazon Prime.  I have access to most of the major streaming services, minus HBO, but for whatever reason, Amazon is my fallback option.  I watch the stupidest shit on there.  You say there's a show that was originally just YouTube clips that a middle-aged British guy made to document his navigation of a narrowboat through the canals of the English countryside?  Sign me up!  Or how about a middling police procedural set in Melbourne, Australia?  Let's go!  Two thirty-ish Latino dudes go to flea markets and try to acquire Mario lunchboxes and Sega Master System games and shit?  Hook it up to my veins!
The one show I may have leaned into the hardest, though, was ABC's Alias.  I had watched the first season a couple of years ago, and being home with nothing to do this spring was the perfect impetus to jump back into the series.  Over time, I acquired the rest of the DVD sets (all five seasons), and made my way through seasons 2-4.  In the middle of my binge, Amazon actually acquired the rights to stream Alias on Prime, but I stuck with the discs.  Season 5 may have to wait until Christmas Break, but I look forward to a satisfying conclusion.
